La uruguaya obtuvo el premio más destacado de las letras hispanas.
La poetisa uruguaya Ida Vitale se convirtió este jueves en la quinta mujer en ser reconocida con el Premio Cervantes, el principal galardón de las letras en lengua hispana.
El Ministerio de Cultura de España anunció el reconocimiento a Vitale, de 95 años, que está dotado con 125 mil euros (141 mil dólares) y que llega después de que la autora también haya sido seleccionada para recibir el máximo premio de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara.
El jurado fue presidido por Carme Riera, escritora y académica de la Real Academia de la Lengua Española, y contó entre sus integrantes con los premiados en las dos últimas ediciones, el nicaragüense Sergio Ramírez (2017) y el barcelonés Eduardo Mendoza (2016).
Nacida en Montevideo en 1923, Vitale ha publicado poesía, ensayos y novelas. Pero también ha incursionado en el periodismo y en la crítica y se ha destacado como traductora.
Su carrera ha sido distinguida entre otros con el Premio Octavio Paz (2009), el Premio Reina Sofía (2015) y el Premio Internacional de Poesía Federico García Lorca (2016).
La entrega del Cervantes tiene lugar todos los años el 23 de abril, el día en el que se conmemora la muerte del autor de “El Quijote”, en una ceremonia solemne que suelen presidir los reyes de España.
